UPS Inc. said 51 of its UPS Store franchise service locations have been victimized by a data breach that revealed some customers’ personal information.

The Aug. 20 announcement by the company that ranks No. 1 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers said a malware intrusion at about 1% of its 4,470 stores was revealed in a government bulletin that also was sent to other retailers.

In response, the company reviewed its own systems and separate ones at the franchises with assistance from an Internet security technology firm.

The breach, which occurred between Jan. 20 and Aug. 11, has been eliminated, UPS said.
