PS Inc. and FedEx Corp. have reopened most of their Gulf Coast facilities that were closed because of Hurricane Katrina, Bloomberg reported.

UPS has opened 27 of 33 operating centers in Mississippi and Louisiana, and plans to have Gulfport and Pascagoula, Miss., a company official told Bloomberg.

FedEx has resumed operations in most areas, a spokeswoman said. Gulfport and New Orleans are the largest cities where FedEx has not restored service, Bloomberg reported.

Neither company could estimate when it would be able to resume service to New Orleans, much of which remains flooded and has been evacuated.

UPS and FedEx have not yet determined the financial impact of the storm, their representatives told Bloomberg. They also haven't been able to assess damage to their centers in New Orleans or determine the number of lost trucks and other equipment.

The two are UPS and FedEx are routing shipments that normally would go through New Orleans hubs to other cities.

UPS is ranked No. 1 and FedEx is No. 2 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
