UPS Inc. has expanded its earliest small-package delivery service and renamed the offering Next Day Air Early.

UPS, based in Atlanta, said 12,680 ZIP codes have been added to give customers the early delivery option as well as an end-of-day guarantee. Including the additional locations, Next Day Air Early now reaches 94% of ZIP codes as well as 98% of U.S. businesses, the statement said.

Delivery times in the new service areas typically will be noon or 2 p.m. Other Next Day Air Early destinations have 8 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. delivery guarantees, depending on the market.

“This expansion is in response to customers’ needs for urgent and reliable deliveries. Already we’ve seen manufacturers, health-care companies and professional services, such as financial firms, respond to the expansion,” Executive Vice President Alan Gershenhorn said. “Businesses use those additional hours to process documents faster, or to turn inventory or lab specimens around quicker.”

The Canadian service now is known as UPS Express Early.
