A growing number of truckers report higher earnings since the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles instituted their OffPeak program July 2005, the program’s sponsors said.PierPass Inc., which sponsors the OffPeak program, late Tuesday released results of survey taken of 451 port truck drivers in late November and early December. Among truckers aware of the program, 61% rate OffPeak positively, down slightly from an earlier survey taken in May, PierPass said. The OffPeak program was set up to move traffic to round-the-clock to take advantage of off-peak hours. (Click here for previous coverage.)The poll also showed that truckers make an increased number of trips per shift, a continued acknowledgement of traffic reduction at the ports and the recognized benefit of a flexible work schedule due to the OffPeak program. The polling data also showed that there is room for immediate growth of the program through underutilized, off-peak hours.
