TravelCenters of America announced its first annual Citizen Driver award to recognize professional drivers who “evoke respect for the truck driving profession.”

The winners were selected for an exemplary career in trucking as well as demonstrating good citizenship, safety, community involvement and leadership, according to the truck-stop company.

The 2014 winners are:  Henry Albert, Jimmy Ardis, Linda and Bob Caffee, Charley Endorf, Jerry Fritts, Shawn Hubbard and Norman Knight.

TravelCenters accepted nominations throughout last year, and submissions were judged by representatives from American Trucking Associations, the Truckload Carriers Association, Women in Trucking, OOIDA and four members from the trucking media.

“The professional and personal standards held by this year’s Citizen Driver Award recipients are the same standards held by thousands of fellow professional drivers across this nation,”  Tom O’Brien, CEO of TravelCenters said in a statement. “We are looking forward to awarding Citizen Driver status to as many of these fine individuals as we can for years to come.”

Each winner picked their favorite TA or Petro Stopping Centers location, which will be renamed after them.
