eeking to improve safety and help prevent lane-changing accidents, three trucking companies recently agreed to have the Iteris Inc. lane-departure warning system installed on all new trucks they order from Freightliner Trucks, Iteris said.

Piedmont Express, Conover, N.C.; New South Express, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Air Products and Chemicals, Allentown, Pa., have all purchased the lane-change warning system, said Bill Patrolia, director of truck sales for Iteris.

Air Products is buying about 200 units over the next two years as it buys new trucks, said Ron Szapacs, the company’s vehicle maintenance specialist.

"We tested five of the units in our day cabs and liked the results," Szapacs said. "The drivers say this helps them stay aware and focused."
