TransCore Developing Combined Communications Modem

TransCore is developing a combined dedicated short-range communications and long-range global positioning system and satellite communications modem for automobile safety products.

Moving from multiple in-vehicle components to a highly integrated device will lower cost and provide widespread coverage, the company said in a statement.

Xata CEO Craig Fawcett Elected Chairman

Fleet-technology firm XATA Corp. said Tuesday that Chief Executive Officer Craig Fawcett was elected Chairman of its board

Fawcett replaces Stephen Lawrence, chairman and CEO of logistics and leasing provider Lawrence Transportation Services, who will remain a XATA board member and serve on the company’s audit committee.

Xata provides truck and trailer tracking services, wireless communication and fleet management services for the trucking industry. Transport Topics

AirIQ Takes Third-Quarter Loss; Revenue Gains

Wireless and telematics firm AirIQ Inc. said Friday it lost $1.6 million or about 2 cents a share in the third quarter, an improvement from its $2.4 million net loss in the same quarter last year.

Gross profit was $3.7 million, an increase of 60.8% from the same period in 2004, the company said in a statement.

Third-quarter revenue was $8.6 million, up 32.3% from a year earlier.

AirIQ, based in Toronto and traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange, operates as a wireless Internet applications service provider specializing in telematics, the information and control messages sent wirelessly to and from vehicles and vessels. Transport Topics
