Gilbert to Use GlobeRanger for Wireless Logistics

The Gilbert Companies, a division of P&O Nedlloyd Logistics, said Monday that it has chosen GlobeRanger to provide it with wireless logistics services.

Gilbert said that the GlobeRanger system will offer it automated data capture, electronic proof of delivery with signature, receipt printing and at-the-dock reconciliation.

GlobeRanger will also allow Gilbert to track customers' shipments through the supply chain. Transport Topics

VW’s CEO Rules Out Fuel Cells

The chief executive officer of Volkswagen AG, Europe’s largest automaker, told a German magazine that the company would not join rivals in trying to develop fuel-cell alterna-tive to internal combustion engine, Bloomberg said.

The company is instead trying to develop synthetic fuels that do not need catalytic converters or filters to reduce emissions, CEO Bernd Pischetsrieder told Stern maga-zine, Bloomberg said.

Fuel cells are seen as a possible solution to tougher emissions standards being placed on cars and trucks. Transport Topics


Terion Inks Deals with Xtra Lease, J.B. Hunt

Terion Inc. said Feb. 25 that it has signed deals to provide a total of 5,500 FleetView fleet management systems to two existing customers.

The Plano, Texas-based company said it sold an additional 4,000 FleetView units to Xtra Lease, a division of Xtra Corp. and 1,500 units to J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. Both companies were already customers of Terion.

These new orders will bring the number of Terion units on the road to more than 65,000, the company said. Transport Topics
