UPS Expects 100 Mln. to Track Online in 'Peak Week'

UPS Inc. said its expects to top 100 million online package tracking requests during its upcoming holiday “peak week” of Dec. 19-23.

This compares with 100,000 tracking requests 10 years ago and UPS' first 1-million request week, in December 1997.



"Our annual $1 billion investment in technology is focused on bringing us closer than ever to our customers, which means treating each customer as if they were the only one," said Dave Barnes, the company’s chief information officer.

Diesel Technology Forum Upgrades Web Site

The Diesel Technology Forum said Monday it has launched a new Web site, www.dieseltechnologyforum.org.

The “technology spotlight” now gives users the latest information on advanced clean diesel technologies, with insights into the revolutionary innovations being designed and tested by industry today for ever greater power, efficiency and clean air benefits.

A new “California corner” provides an in-depth information center focused on that state's air quality management and the importance of diesel to its economic and environmental progress, and includes a newsroom dedicated to major statewide headlines, plus technology information and detailed research and data.

A “policy insider” section provides users with complete information, downloads and research on the federal, state and local clean diesel policy initiatives affecting communities today, including clean diesel's role in energy efficiency and environmental progress, the group said. Transport Topics


McLeod Sets SkyBitz Trailer-Tracking Interface

McLeod Software said last Monday it had created a new interface with SkyBitz trailer tracking software.

SkyBitz’s Global Locating System joins a list of trailer-tracking interface options for McLeod’s LoadMaster transportation management system, the company said in a statement.

McLeod will use the SkyBitz trailer tracking system to give customers the ability to track powered and unpowered assets, allowing them to reduce capital expenditures through lost or stolen trailers and optimizing trailer utilization.

The interface also provides carriers the opportunity to improve their customer service and increase detention billing to troublesome customers, McLeod said. Transport Topics
