PrePass to Scrap Per-Use Fee

PrePass, an electronic clearance system said Monday that it would replace its “per-pass” billing approach in favor of a flat, monthly fee model.

The new system would charge users $14.99 per truck, rather than the 99-cent-per-pass fee, PrePass said. The new fee structure would be available to new customers immediately, while existing users would have the new structure phased in over time.

PrePass is used in 24 states to automatically clear trucks at weigh stations and other checkpoints, the company said. Currently, according to PrePass, more than 220,000 trucks use the system. Transport Topics

Energy Bill Includes Fuel Cell Provision

The energy bill passed by the House of Representatives Friday includes a provision that would encourage the use of fuel cells, the Omaha World-Herald reported.

The provision would provide federal subsidies for companies using fuel cells to power their facilities, the paper said.

In addition to providing electric power for things like computers and other systems, fuel cells are thought of as a future source of power for vehicles like heavy-duty trucks and cars. Transport Topics
