GM Announces Increased Range in its Fuel Cells
General Motors Corp. said last week that it has vehicle tested a new hydrogen storage system that extends the range of its fuel cell-powered vehicle by 60% to 70%.The new 10,000 pounds per square inch tanks the automaker tested on its HydroGen3 vehicle is the first to be tested on a vehicle, the company said.
Fuel cells are seen as a possible solution to the trucking industry’s problems with new, stricter emissions. Transport Topics
CNF Tabs IBM, Ketera to Provide On-Demand Procurement
CNF Inc. said Monday that it has chosen IBM and Ketera Technologies to provide on-demand procurement services.The system will enable CNF to move its purchasing processes to one Internet-based process from requisition through payment.
CNF is a diversified transportation provider based in Palo Alto, Calif. The company is ranked No. 4 on the 2002 Transport Topics 100 listing of the largest trucking companies in the United States and Canada. Transport Topics
Qualcomm Declares First Dividend
Communications provider Qualcomm Inc. said Feb. 11 that its board of directors has declared a quarterly stock dividend of 5 cents per share – the company’s first in its 17-year history.The dividend will be paid on March 31, the company said, to shareholders of record on March 14.
The San Diego-based provider of wireless communications to the trucking industry, among others, also said it will be buying back up to $1 billion in common stock over the next two years. Transport Topics
