Technical Training a Major Issue As Drinkard Takes Council's Top Post
Incoming Leader Also Place Truck Design on Priority List
(Michael James - TT) Duke Drinkard, vice president of field maintenance for Southeastern Freight Lines, is said to be "just as comfortable with a computer as he is with a wrench."
The Technology and Maintenance Council has begun to broaden its standards setting and training to take into account the increasingly complex role of maintenance managers in the trucking industry, according to the council’s next chairman, Duke Drinkard.
That trend is reflected in the addition of information technology sessions to TMC’s agenda during its March 4-8 annual meeting in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
“Instead of being narrowly focused on fixing trucks, maintenance departments are going to have to be more knowledgeable of other departments,” Drinkard said in a telephone interview with Transport Topics.
