Tech Executives Seek Rules on Security Info

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>ATLANTA — Technology executives at a trucking industry conference on wireless communications last week called for stepped up coordination and more government spending on truck security.

Manufacturers of wireless tracking devices, which could monitor hazardous material shipments and thwart terrorists from using trucks as bombs, said the trucking industry and federal government should quickly develop technical standards, functional requirements and procedures for using the information those tracking devices generate.

Without more coordination and financial backing, motor carriers will postpone buying remote vehicle monitoring systems with added security features, technology executives said at the Eyefortransport Conference here.
