The Teamsters union has withdrawn another election petition at FedEx Freight, the company said, in the latest sign that organizing efforts are losing momentum.

FedEx Freight’s statement noted that the union has now withdrawn five election petitions and lost two of the three elections that took place.

In the latest development, the union called off an election at Pocono Summit, Pennsylvania, just days after taking the identical step at terminals in Virginia and Tennessee and losing an election at a Louisville, Kentucky, terminal. Workers at three terminals of FedEx Freight, a unit of FedEx Corp., have voted for Teamsters representation.

“We believe in our drivers and appreciate all they do for the company,” said Mike Ducker, incoming president and chief executive officer of FedEx Freight. “We are pleased with the recent results and look forward to a bright future together.”

The union also has been seeking to organize drivers at Con-way Inc.’s Freight unit, where there also has been a mixture of wins, losses and withdrawn petitions for the labor organization.

FedEx is No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada. Con-way is No. 4.
