Tanker Driver Killed in Crash

DEER PARK, Texas (AP) - A man was killed Monday when his fuel truck was struck by train traveling along a Port of Houston track running between the Shell chemical plant and oil refinery here.

The truck, which was carrying fuel, caught fire after the train dragged the crumpled cab and trailer down the track. The blaze was extinguished soon after the 9:15 a.m. crash, Shell spokesman Dennis Winkler said.

"A small amount of fuel did spill and ignited," Winkler said. "But it was contained right in the area of the railroad tracks.

Joseph Hughes, 49, an employee of Kellogg Brown & Root energy services company, was killed in the crash.

Deer Park is immediately southeast of Houston along the Ship Channel.
