Shippers Scramble to Move Freight CF Left Behind

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Freight customers were still scrambling last week to locate their shipments in Consolidated Freightway’s system after the abrupt closing of the less-than-truckload carrier Sept. 2.

Rival trucking firms, meanwhile, focused on moving current shipments for their customers amid a flow of new traffic that came to them after the CF collapse removed what had been the nation’s third-largest LTL carrier.

Kathy Luhn, vice president of domestic policy at the National Industrial Transportation League, a leading shipper lobbying group, said Sept. 9 that many NITL members were struggling to find out what had happened to their cargoes.
