he Senate confirmed Mary Peters to be the 15th secretary of the Department of Transportation on Friday by unanimous consent.

Peters was previously approved by the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee by a unanimous 22-0 vote.

President Bush said in a statement he was "pleased that the Senate swiftly confirmed" the former head of the Federal Highway Administration to replace Norman Mineta as transportation secretary. Peters was nominated by President Bush less than a month before she was confirmed.
