Gabriel Names Distributor of Trucking, Intermodal Products
Gabriel Technologies Corp, a homeland security-focused company serving the transportation industry, Wednesday named Vipar Heavy Duty the lead distributor of Gabriel's trucking and intermodal security transportation product lines.Vipar, Crystal Lake, Ill., is a network of aftermarket truck parts wholesale distributors with more than 700 locations across the United States and Canada.
The distributors sell more than of $1 billion in parts to the heavy duty truck industry annually, Gabriel said.
Utah Trucking Assn. Sets Safety Partnership
The Utah Trucking Association is launching a two-year program with state and federal officials to improve trucking driving safety, the Deseret Morning News newspaper reported.The trucking association is launching the program in cooperation with the Utah Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to address several issues, including driver fatigue and a lack of seat-belt compliance, the paper reported.
As part of the program, UDOT will broadcast radio advertisements and use billboards in rural areas to alert truckers to common problems that occur while driving.
David Creer, executive director of the Utah Trucking Association, told the paper the group’s concerns included sharing the road safely with all motorists. Transport Topics
Connecticut Police Write 1,200 Seat-Belt Tickets
Local and state police in Connecticut issued tickets to more than 1,200 motorists for not wearing seat belts between May 20 and June 5, the Associated Press reported.AP said law enforcement officials issued the citations as part of the state’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign.
The tickets generated $44,000 in fines, which will be sent to the state’s general fund, AP reported.
During the same time period, police in the state wrote 1,300 tickets for speeding, AP said. Transport Topics
Oshkosh Expanding Military Truck Facility
Specialty manufacturer Oshkosh Truck said it completed the purchase of a 300,000-square-foot facility near its headquarters in Oshkosh, Wis., and would invest about $4 million to upgrade it to manufacture military trucks for use in Iraq.Oshkosh said it expected the new facility, which is scheduled to be fully operational by September, would double its production capacity.
The facility upgrades would include installation of an automated line for blast and paint operations, new cells for component disassembly and refurbishing, new overhead cranes and a dedicated line for vehicle teardown, the truck maker said.
Oshkosh said it manufactures specialty trucks and truck bodies for the defense, fire and emergency, concrete placement and refuse-hauling markets. Transport Topics
