SCS Transportation Warns of Lower 2005 Profits

Regional less-than-truckload carrier SCS Transportation Inc. said in a statement that some severe accidents and an “adverse” verdict against the company would lower full-year earnings by nearly 20 cents a share.

Previously, the Kansas City-based carrier said its full-year earnings would be in a range of $1.55 to $1.70 per share, but it now expected earnings to be between $1.35 and $1.50 per share.

SCS said that expenses at its Saia unit rose due to several “severe accidents” and “an adverse verdict relating to a 2001 employment matter.”

The company also said it would announce its second-quarter results on July 19.
