ruckload carrier Schneider National said Wednesday it would add 100 driving jobs in the Huntsville, Ala., area as it expands its presence in the Southeast.

The hires will be over-the-road drivers and owner-operators, Schneider said in a release. Most will work for the company’s One-Way Van division.

“Schneider is experiencing an increase in the demand for truckload services in the Southeast, prompting the need to hire more drivers,” said Rob Reich, the company's vice president of enterprise recruiting.

The company also said it is testing a new computer system that will allow drivers to design their own work schedules and will use its “Home Run” program to allow groups of three driving teams that live near each other to share tractors.

Schneider, the largest U.S. truckload carrier, is ranked No. 7 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
