ruckload carrier Schneider National’s logistics unit said Monday it had completed its acquisition of American Port Services, a provider of port transloading, warehousing and distribution services.

Based in Savannah, Ga., American Port Services will retain its name and conduct business as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Schneider Logistics. George Powers, president of American Port Services, will continue to lead the organization.

"Our relationship with American Port Services complements our existing transportation and logistics capabilities with port-based logistics and freight management services," said Tom Escott, president of Schneider Logistics.

He said the acquisition gives Schneider more than 4 million square feet of warehousing space and a “strong presence at all major U.S. ports.”

Schneider National is the largest U.S. truckload company and is No. 9 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
