Ryder System said it has reached agreement to buy a privately held Canadian truck leasing company for an undisclosed sum.

The purchase of Pollock NationaLease is expected to close in October, the company said late Wednesday.

A Ryder spokesman said the two have been competitors previously, Bloomberg reported. Pollock is based in Strathroy, Ontario.

Ryder Canada will acquire Pollock’s fleet of more than 2,000 vehicles and more than 187 contract customers, the company said.

The combined network will operate under the Ryder name, complementing Ryder Canada’s market coverage and service network, the company said.

Ryder System is ranked No. 5 on the 2007 Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
