Roadrunner Transportation Systems’ first-quarter net income slipped 1.6% to $10.4 million, or 27 cents per share, from $10.6 million, or 29 cents, as severe weather damaged profits.

Roadrunner, based in Cudahy, Wis., said its revenue rose 27.5% to $382 million, led by a 32% in truckload revenue, its largest business, to $193.9 million.

Profit before interest and taxes rose 24% to $12 million.

Less-than-truckload revenue increased 1.7% to $135 million, but profitability slipped to $6.7 million from $9 million.

The transportation management unit that offers logistics services raised profitability to $3.5 million from $2.3 million, and revenue more than doubled due to acquisitions.

Roadrunner ranks No. 24 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
