Qualcomm Reports Earnings, Mobile Comm. Shipments Rise

ireless-services provider Qualcomm Inc. reported Wednesday that net income for its third quarter ended June 26 rose 15% to $560 million or 33 cents a share, from $486 million or 29 cents a year earlier.

Revenue climbed 1.3% to $1.36 billion year-over-year, Qualcomm said in a statement.

The company’s Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions unit shipped about 13,800 satellite-based systems in the quarter, including its OmniTracs and TruckMail systems for mobile in-cab communications. That compared with 10,200 units a year earlier and 8,800 in the preceding quarter.



QWBS shipped more than 19,600 terrestrial-based systems, including OmniExpress, GlobalTracs and T2 Untethered TrailerTracs for tracking trailers, compared with 2,300 a year earlier and 13,800 in the second quarter of this fiscal year.
