Port of Los Angeles Top Executive Announces Retirement

Port of Los Angles Executive Director Geraldine Knatz will retire at the end of the year. She will become the first senior manager to leave during Mayor Eric Garcetti's review of the city's top department heads, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Knatz was hired to run the nation’s busiest port in 2006 by Garcetti’s predecessor, Antonio Villaraigosa. When Garcetti took office, he required the top department heads to reapply for their positions and explain how they would achieve their goals, the Times reported.

Garcetti declined to say if Knatz's retirement was related to the review of departments and Knatz, said she was leaving to “pursue other interests.”

Knatz will leave her position in November but stay on until December to help make a smoother transition. City Manager Gary Moore will be taking on Knatz' responsibilities until a replacement is found, the Times reported.
