The Port of Los Angeles reported a 1% drop year-over-year in volume that included a 4.7% rise in imports.

The largest U.S. port totaled 656,177 industry-standard 20-foot container units, or TEUs. Loaded imports reached 343,574 TEUs. Export loads dropped 1% to 144,103.

Empty containers being routed for future loading fell 11%. The April total was about 7% higher than March of this year.

“We’re encouraged that shippers and supply chain decision-makers continue to show confidence in the Port of Los Angeles,” said Executive Director Gene Seroka.

“While the pace of global trade and U.S. retailer imports has eased recently, our work and progress on supply chain optimization has put the Port of Los Angeles on track to drive market opportunities.”
