PGT Trucking to Buy Flatbed Carrier Kelworth Trucking

Flatbed carrier PGT Trucking Inc. said April 25 it has signed a letter of intent to buy Kelworth Trucking Co., which is based in Poteau, Okla.

Details of the deal were not released, although Monaca, Pa.-based PGT said it expects to complete the deal by early May.

Kelworth operates its 100-truck fleet throughout the continental United States and Canada. Its headquarters is located near the Interstate 40 corridor in Oklahoma just south of Fort Smith, Ark.

Kelworth has been in business for more than 25 years. Kelworth’s president, Scotty Jones, and his son Jeff, its vice president, both will join PGT as a part of its management team.

“The addition of Kelworth is strategic in several ways,” said Gregg Troian, president of PGT. “Most importantly, though, are the drivers and the facility location. These two important aspects . . . [will fill] a void in the operating network.”

Kelworth Trucking is PGT’s second acquisition in the past 10 months, following its acquisition of Trenton, N.J.-based Liedtka Trucking in August.
