PHOENIX — PeopleNet has broadened its product line with the introduction of its ConnectedFleet Platform, which ties together its fleet-management software and mobile technology with new Android software and a new set of mobile applications for drivers’ personal devices.

The platform, which connects drivers, equipment and devices through a cloud-based network, is designed to provide fleets with actionable information to improve their operations, PeopleNet said at its annual user conference here.

Mark Kessler, general manager of trucking for PeopleNet, said the ConnectedFleet Platform “drives faster integration of new data types from a growing number of truck sensors and solutions that respond more quickly to customer needs for improved safety, enhanced efficiency in logistics and reduced environmental impact.”

PeopleNet said the new platform will enable fleets to subscribe to specific data based on their needs and receive it as it is published in near real time.

The ConnectedFleet Platform relies on PeopleNet’s Mobile Gateway, which replaces previous-generation onboard computers and serves as a “hub” providing connectivity to a variety of devices in and around the truck, such as in-cab displays, mobile devices and wearables.

PeopleNet said its software release for the Android operating system supports growing demand for the use of mobile devices under a company-owned, personally enabled model, where the fleet owns the device but drivers also can use it for personal applications. Fleets can use PeopleNet’s proprietary ConnectedTablet or a variety of certified, third-party commercial-grade mobile devices.

PeopleNet also announced the launch of its ConnectedDriver mobile application suite, a set of apps that allows drivers to stay connected with dispatch, messaging and hours-of-service information while away from the truck.

The apps, which run on drivers’ personal Apple or Android devices, are designed to improve driver productivity and satisfaction by helping them better manage their time.

The initial launch of ConnectedDriver can alert drivers when they receive a new dispatch, provide information on available hours of service and deliver read-only messaging.

Randy Boyles, senior vice president of mobile strategy at PeopleNet, said the set of apps “provides the mobility and functionality that the driver desires while also providing the up-to-the minute real-time information they need to do their jobs effectively and safely, while remaining compliant.”
