Pa. Anti-Idling Law Goes Into Effect

A law limiting the amount of time a truck can idle in Pennsylvania took effect Friday, the Associated Press reported.

Under the law, no vehicle over 10,000 pounds can idle for more than five minutes in a 60-minute period, AP said.

The state legislature passed the law in October, and Gov. Ed Rendell (D) signed it shortly thereafter. When Rendell signed the legislation, James Runk, president of Pennsylvania Motor Trucking Association, told Transport Topics that PMTA fully supported the regulation.

The law includes certain exceptions for driver comfort, but those exceptions expire in 2010.
