Oregon to Use Facial Scan for CDL Licensing

y the end of 2007, truck drivers in Oregon applying for or renewing a commercial driver license will have their facial features read by biometric scanners, as part of the state’s effort to fight identity theft, the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles said.

The DMV also said the program would apply to people seeking to renew or apply for a regular driver license in the state.

“The primary reason . . . is to combat identity theft,” Oregon DMV spokesman David House told Transport Topics. “It’s been a problem in Oregon for years and years. It seems the criminals keep getting more and more sophisticated, which means we have to keep training our employees on forged document recognition.”
