Obama Calls for Postal Service to End Saturday Mail Delivery

President Obama’s proposed budget calls for the U.S. Postal Service to end Saturday mail delivery, Bloomberg reported.

In his budget, released on Monday, Obama included a plan to save the Postal Service by cutting mail delivery to five days per week by January 2013 and implementing the remaining 1.8% of a 5.6% rate increase proposed in 2010, Bloomberg said.

“Bold action is needed to ensure that USPS can continue to operate in the short run and achieve viability in the long run,” Obama wrote in the budget.

According to the budget, the Postal Service could lose $13.6 billion in fiscal year 2013, Bloomberg reported.
