Truck drivers who need a break in Nevada can find the nearest highway truck stop by checking online via laptop or mobile device, the state Department of Transportation said.
Maps showing truck stops along interstates 15 and 80 are available on NDOT’s website. The maps include information on the number of parking spots and availability of diesel fuel, food and restrooms and showers, NDOT reported.
Information on truck stops along U.S. routes will be available in the next two months, NDOT spokeswoman Meg Ragonese said.
NDOT hopes making the information available online also will help drivers plan for adverse weather on I-80 through the Sierra Nevada mountains near the California state line. Truck parking has been limited west of Reno since closure of the Boomtown truck stop, Ragonese said.
“We build and support the transportation systems that move people and goods; that’s what we do,” NDOT Director Rudy Malfabon said in a statement. “We know that, every year, trucks travel nearly 2 billion miles in Nevada. And we know these maps will help make those miles traveled more efficient, safe and quicker, not just for truck drivers, but for the motorists and commerce of the state.”
