Nafta Surface Trade Rose in July

urface trade among the United States, Canada and Mexico rose 3.3% in July to $49.7 billion from a year earlier, the Department of Transportation reported late Monday.

Surface transportation consists largely of freight movements by truck, rail and pipeline. About 90% of U.S. trade by value with North American Free Trade Agreement partners Canada and Mexico moves by land.

July U.S. imports by truck rose 1.2% over a year earlier to $18.5 billion, while truck exports increased 4.1% to $16.6 billion, DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics said in its monthly report.



Rail imports fell 2% to $5.3 billion year-over-year, while exports jumped 15.6% to $2.3 billion.

Pipeline imports rose 13.9% to $3.6 billion while exports fell 16.7% to $205 million, BTS said.
