The North American Council for Freight Efficiency unveiled a new website designed to help trucking companies identify potential savings from using a variety of systems and technologies in their fleets.

The launch of www.TruckingEfficiency.org was accompanied by the release of a free, independent, online technology guide to help fleet owners make the best choices for their operations, NACFE said.

“The initiative will stimulate increased adoption of efficiency technologies among truck owners and operators, no matter what size, helping them make significant, long-term savings on fuel costs and carbon emissions,” said Richard Branson, founder and chairman of Virgin Group, which includes Virgin Atlantic Airlines.

Branson spoke about the launch Sept. 22 with NACFE President Mike Roeth on CNBC. Roeth said many trucking companies already have been using technologies and systems to save money on fuel.

A semitractor in the United States uses about $70,000 in fuel per year, Roeth told CNBC.

“We’re working with early adopters who have bought some of these technologies and are getting the benefits from them,” he said “ They all give opportunities to lower fuel spending by 30% or 40%, so those $70,000 can be reduced significantly.”

The website release follows an NACFE report earlier this month that identified some of the major technologies and practices fleets can use to save money on fuel.
