ATLANTA — Michelin Americas introduced two new drive tires for heavy-duty trucks.

On Sept. 27 at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show here, Michelin showed off the XDA Energy+ for longhaul fleets, especially dry and refrigerated vans, and the X Multi D for regional carriers whose typical run is 400 miles or less.

Adam Murphy, marketing vice president for Michelin’s truck tire division, said longhaul fleets will “get the most benefit from very low rolling-resistance tires.”

Switching all eight drive tires on a tractor will save a fleet $400 per year in fuel spending, Murphy said, adding that Michelin will guarantee the result.

The XDA is available starting Oct. 1, he said, and carry a 7-year, 700,000-mile warranty. Murphy said three retreads should be typical for the tire.

X Multi D replaces Michelin’s XDE M/S tires, and Murphy said the new tire can get 65% more mileage than the previous one. He also said the tire is designed for good traction in bad weather.
