Meritor Selects UQM to Supply Electric Axles

Electric motor manufacturer UQM Technologies Inc. announced Meritor Inc. has chosen the company to supply its development and production plans for the 14Xe electric axle product line.

UQM and Meritor are supporting prototype deliveries for testing as well as initial pilot electric axles, according to Longmont, Colo.-based UQM.

“It has been a long and rewarding process to unveil this electric axle, and we are looking forward to the ongoing development of this long-term relationship in support of Meritor’s 14Xe axle strategy,” UQM CEO Joe Mitchell said in a news release. “This announcement falls in line with UQM’s overarching strategy of focusing on design and development and serving the market with a proven Tier 1 OEM.”

The development program between the companies was announced in February 2017. Meritor unveiled its electric axle at the 2017 North American Commercial Vehicle Show in Atlanta in September and has begun trials with key customers.

UQM Technologies develops and manufactures power-dense, high-efficiency electric motors, generators, power electronic controllers and fuel-cell compressors for the commercial truck, bus, automotive, marine and industrial markets.
