Manufacturing activity in the New York region increased in July to the highest level since April 2010, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said July 15.

The “Empire State Index,” generally the first economic indicator in a given month, rose to a 25.6 reading from 19.3 in June, the regional Fed said.

Economists had called for a reading of 17 in July, Bloomberg News reported. Readings greater than zero show expansion.
