Mack Trucks confirmed that it plans to add about 100 jobs at its assembly plant in Macungie, Pa., during the next few months to meet rising customer demand.

North American Class 8 truck orders have surged this year, climbing 35.2% from a year ago during the first quarter, including 24.4% growth in March, according to ACT Research.

Mack’s move follows a similar announcement by sister company Volvo Trucks at the Mid-America Trucking Show late last month, in which it said will hire 200 more workers at its Dublin, Va., plant by the end of June.
