Loads Decline 1.4% for Week, DAT Reports

The latest DAT report of posted van, refrigerated and flatbed loads declined 1.4%, and available capacity dipped 0.1%, during the week ended Aug. 23 from the previous week.

Van freight availability declined 1.5%, and capacity dipped 0.6% with 3.2 van loads posted for every van available on DAT load boards.

The national average van rate was unchanged for the third consecutive week at $2 per mile, “Historically, that’s a strong rate for mid-August and 16 cents higher than the average rate at this time last year,” the report said.

Flatbed capacity was little changed, and availability declined 3.5%, DAT reported. Reefer freight availability increased 4.8%, but capacity declined 2.3%.
