Chrysler Group LLC outpaced General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. by being the only domestic automaker to post sales gains in April, the Associated Press reported.
Chrysler reported a 20% increase in sales compared to April 2011, driven in part by a 19% gain in sales for Ram pickups, AP said. Meanwhile, GM sales declined 8% and Ford sales fell 5%. AP said.
Of the four GM brands – Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC – only GMC, which sells only trucks, posted an increase; sales in that division rose 4.5%.
Ford, meanwhile, felt the sting from the discontinued Ranger small pickup, sales of which declined 63% as dealers offload the last of the trucks, AP said. Sales of the Escape small SUV fell 20% as the current model makes way for a redesigned version that’s due in the spring.
