L&MT Magazine: What’s Happening With Hydraulic Brakes?

The pace of change in hydraulic truck brakes is going to accelerate over the next five years as technological advances now common in cars, such as advanced traction control and automatic vehicle stability, migrate to commercial trucks.

A more imminent change is a new generation of hydraulic braking actuation systems. When available, possibly as early as next year, the systems will mean better control and braking for midrange trucks. They may also cost a few more dollars, especially in the beginning, but that’s another issue.

At least two suppliers, Robert Bosch Corp. and Meritor Wabco, are developing new hydraulic actuation systems intended to boost disc brake actuation at the wheels.
