Little Rock to Convert Fleet to Natural Gas in Pilot Program

Omnitek Engineering Corp. said it has been selected by Little Rock, Arkansas, to convert the city’s municipal truck fleet to natural gas-powered engines as part of a pilot program.

The company said it will convert the city’s Navistar DT466E truck engines as part of a program intended to demonstrate the economic benefits of Omnitek’s engine-conversion technology for diesel to natural gas.

“Arkansas is committed to supporting technologies that reduce environmental pollution and utilize inexpensive natural gas, and we are gratified to have been selected,” Omnitek CEO Werner Funk said in a statement.

The company said it expects Little Rock to save between $2.50 to $3.00 per-gallon equivalent compared with the retail price of diesel.
