Letter to the Editor: Trucking in Trouble

t’s sad that our elected officials in Washington haven’t done anything to help ease the burden on the trucking industry.

Thousands of small trucking companies and owner-operators are going out of business monthly because of fuel prices, and they are the backbone of this industry. Fuel prices are still rising without any relief in sight, and the price of a barrel of oil continues to go up despite OPEC’s record output.

I’ve been in the transportation industry for 47 years as a corporate traffic manager with a fleet of my own trucks and presently I’m in brokerage.

Where and what is the answer to this crisis? Everyone must unite and strike to protest the ongoing crisis in the industry. Our officials in Washington don’t seem to care about our dilemma, only about Iraq.
