ruckload carrier Knight Transportation said late Wednesday its net income for the third quarter was $15.5 million or 27 cents a share, up from $12.6 million or 22 cents a year earlier.

Knight's revenue rose 28% to $146.2 million, the company said in a statement.

“Revenue growth came from a combination of improved asset utilization, expansion of our fleet and network of service centers, and approximately 45 days of revenue from our August acquisition of Edwards Bros. Inc., a refrigerated carrier based in Idaho Falls, Idaho," Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Knight said in a statement.

Knight is ranked No. 49 on the Transport Topics 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian trucking companies.
