Knight Acquires Abilene Motor Express
Phoenix-based Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings will acquire privately-held Abilene Motor Express for an undisclosed purchase price.
Headquartered in Richmond, Va., Abilene is the first acquisition by the merged Knight-Swift. Last September, Phoenix-based Knight Transportation purchased Swift Transportation.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Knight-Swift reported that Abilene had approximately $100 million in annual revenue and an operating ratio in the low 90’s. In 2016, Abilene had annual revenue of $85.3 million, down 1% from the previous year.
According to Abilene’s company website, its fleet consists of 400 tractors with an average age of 18 months. It also owns 1,000 dry vans and 275 refrigerated trailers.
