Key Senator Backs Incentives for New Truck Engines, APUs

ARLINGTON, Va. — The new chairman of the Senate Finance Committee told directors of American Trucking Associations last week that he supported creation of federal financial incentives to help fleets purchase new, cleaner-burning diesel engines and auxiliary power units.Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) said, “I’m looking at a couple of things” to help truckers acquire the new equipment, which is designed to trim diesel emissions.Baucus told ATA’s executive committee on Feb. 13, “I’m looking for a way to reduce the costs” to fleets of buying cleaner-burning engines.
