Jobless Claims Fall 4,000 in Latest Week

he number of U.S. workers filing for initial unemployment benefits fell by 4,000 to 315,000 for the week ended Aug. 20, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

The drop was in line with analysts’ forecasts, Bloomberg reported.

The four-week moving average of claims, a less volatile measure, rose to 315,000, from 313,750 the previous week, Labor said.



The number of people filing continuing jobless claims fell to 2.578 million the week ended Aug. 13, from 2.587 million the previous week.
