Hendrickson has launched a stainless steel-clad aluminum bumper for the International HX Series models for severe-service applications. The Aero Clad's finish is 10 times thicker than chrome plating, the company's bumper division said in a recent statement.

The bumper features a lightweight design, which saves 52 pounds compared with the standard painted steel bumper that it also supplies, Hendrickson said. This design means better fuel economy and, without chrome plating, contributes to a "green" environment, the company said.

Navistar Inc. unveiled the severe-service HX series under its International heavy-duty truck brand at the World of Concrete conference in Las Vegas at the beginning of February, Transport Topics previously reported.

Aero Clad is for set-forward and set-back axle models. It features a material and manufacturing process that offers a finish geared to the styling, functional design and durability requirements in heavy-duty truck applications, Hendrickson said in the Feb. 16 announcement.

In addition to bumper and trim components, Itasca, Illinois-based Hendrickson manufactures and supplies, among others, air suspensions and axles to the global commercial transportation industry.

Aero Clad has a limited five-year warranty. The bumper also debuted at this year's World of Concrete show. Aftermarket options will be available in the coming year, Hendrickson said.
