Grocery Chain Supervalu in Group to Buy Albertson's

n investment group lead by several firms including grocery chain Supervalu Inc. is on the verge of winning an auction for Albertson’s Inc. for about $9.6 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Albertson’s, which operates grocery stores and pharmacies, owns and operates 19 distribution centers in its 31-state operating area, according to its Web site.

Along with Supervalu, the investment group includes Cerberus Capital and Kimco Realty Corp., the Journal reported. It said that other offers could also be entertained.



Supervalu is ranked No. 36 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of private North American carriers.
