Gasoline Hits 12-Week High in Lundberg Survey
The average price of gasoline was $3.346 Jan. 10, the highest U.S. price in 12 weeks, according to Lundberg Survey Inc.
The price represents an 8.41-cent increase in the three weeks since the last survey, Lundberg said in the data released Jan. 12. It is 2.12 cents higher than a year ago.
“I don’t see signs that the higher gasoline prices are a trend,” Trilby Lundberg, president of Lundberg Survey, told Bloomberg News. “Retail price changes will probably be small in the near term. It will take big increases in crude to cause gasoline prices to climb even more.”
The highest gas price in the contiguous United States was $3.67 a gallon in Long Island, New York, Lundberg said. The lowest price was in Albuquerque, at $2.97 a gallon.
Lundberg polls about 2,500 filling stations for its survey.
The Department of Energy will release its weekly survey of diesel fuel and gasoline prices the afternoon of Jan. 13.
